Football memorabilia, art and gold sovereigns were some of the highlights of our latest September 29th timed online auction.
A large consignment of autographed football press photos and signed team photos from the 1950s were consigned from a deceased estate in Bracknell featuring star players from the old First Division. Legendary players like Stanley Matthews, Danny Blanchflower and a young Bobby Robson from his Fulham playing days, proved popular with bidders making over £5,000 across nine different lots.
A 1950s gent’s Rolex Precision Oysterdate stainless steel wristwatch made £950 (including buyer’s premium) while a ladies Rolex Perpetual Date wristwatch from 1982 made £1270; several Edwardian silver and gold cased pocket watches were up for grabs with a full-hunter 18ct gold cased pocket watch fetching £2,300.
Another deceased estate from Sonning brought a collection of Royal Mint cased commemorative sovereigns with a Victorian gold double sovereign reaching £950 together with sovereign rings and pendants.
A cache of Colombian silverware featuring a four-piece tea and coffee service on a matching two-handled butler’s tray, hallmarked for Florentine, Bogota in the French style was knocked down for £2400 while a Mediterranean oil on canvas scene of Santa Margarita from the Ligurian coast, south of Genoa, was the final item in the sale at £1400 painted by Cecil Rochford D’Oyly John (1906-1993).
